If I choose version 3.13.0-24-generic, it will boot fine, and I'll get Ubuntu Desktop in full resolution (at least most of the time, I've seen some hangs, but not frequently). From Grub boot menu I can choose between 2 versions of kernel: 3.13.0-39-generic and 3.13.0-24-generic.
